If playing other races, the names of the research categories will be different, etc., but the basic concepts will be the same. The guide is written from a TEC perspective. It tries to capture the, "Oh, I didn't know I could do that" moments as one learns the concepts of the game. It does not list every Capital Ship, every Frigate, et cetera. The information is presented in a bit of a free-form style. Going through the in-game tutorial is of assistance, but that just scratches the surface of the learning curve you will encounter.
And then to keep on going until beating hard AI opponents is just good, clean fun. The goal of this guide is to help brand-new players win their first game on easy – to help get them past the steep learning curve of this game. Part of this could be considered tips and tricks. Part of this could be considered a bit of a walk-through. Part of this could be considered a tutorial. It’s not long before one “forgets” that it took five minutes of research to learn how to “increase fleet command points.” After a while, it becomes an automatic part of one’s neural pathways. I started writing this guide immediately upon successfully completing my first play-through.
